I was charged with a serious matter in December, 2015 which ended up in the District Court.
In January, 2016 after consulting a number of solicitors I retained a legal firm. Initially I had a junior solicitor who said I needed a barrister. A barrister turned up at Court on the first occasion and said he could make it all go away. The junior solicitor then left the firm and another one took her place. He briefed a different barrister as the first one was no longer available. The second barrister told me I would be sent to prison. I was drowning. The case had been going on for some months and fees were being charged but I still did not have a clue why what was happening with the case was happening. I then spoke to another solicitor who referred me to Nigel.
During our first meeting Nigel quoted a price that was less than half what the other solicitor had told me would be required to bring my matter to a conclusion. Nigel explained things to me clearly and then I began to understand. As Nigel was willing to take my case, there was no hesitation on my part – I asked him to represent me and told the first guy that he was surplus to requirements.
From our first meeting I felt Nigel was a good advocate who knew what he was talking about. He was present in the moment, did not shuffle papers or search for books, and in court he projected a calm, reasonable and “in control” persona that not only reassured me but also reassured the judge that his time wasn’t going to be wasted.
His advice was comprehensive and I understood what he told me. This was partly because he encouraged me to ask questions. Despite the case taking some months and a number of court appearances, he never charged any additional fees beyond the fixed fee he quoted me. I did not go to jail and the sentence I received was consistent with the precedent case Nigel had explained to me.
If I did need a lawyer again I would be happy to have Nigel again. I’ve kept his email address in my book in case someone else I know needs it.
The outcome of my case was the best possible outcome I could have hoped for so I was extremely happy. I was allowed to keep my licence and continue driving. The fixed fee was very reasonable even when compared to quotes from other solicitors who not only charged more but informed me that my case could not be won. And I was not charged any additional fees. Nigel provided enormous value for the fee charged. Even though my case was relatively straight forward Nigel was incredibly well prepared.
The advice he gave was very clear and covered all possible outcomes I could anticipate. He explained the law related to my case in ways that I could easily understand and I felt very well informed surrounding my options. He presented me with his research and statistics relevant to how many previous cases similar to mine have been won in the District Court. I was informed of his strategy for the Appeal and all his preparation was done in a timely fashion. There was always direct contact with Nigel for any queries or concerns I may have had no matter how big or small.
My case was very well presented in court. Nigel’s extensive experience was evident when he was presenting my case to the judge. He was very confident and certain of himself and the arguments he presented. His arguments were always strongly corroborated with the law and supporting evidence. The judge was persuaded in my case and I won. I was called as a witness and Nigel prepared me thoroughly before the hearing, which helped me to be calm and less worried during my questioning on the day.
I would most certainly retain Nigel as my lawyer again if the need ever arose. I will always highly recommend him to anyone in need of a highly capable and competent lawyer who is willing to put in one hundred percent of his effort and expertise into helping you achieve the best possible outcome with the minimal amount of worrying and stress on your part.
