VertiganLaw offers an initial 15-30 minute conference by telephone at no cost to you to discuss your case. You can arrange this by calling or emailing Nigel using the contact details below, using the online enquiry form or using the LawTap button below. For your convenience, conferences can be held in offices in Penrith, Parramatta or Sydney. .
If you then wish to proceed, a longer face to face conference will be arranged. You will be provided with a draft costs agreement setting out what legal services will be provided to you and at a fixed fee. You will be invited to ask questions concerning the agreement and/or negotiate the fixed fee should you wish. Nigel will provide you with clear advice as to the nature and strength of the prosecution case, the procedures involved as well as what has to be proved for each charge and by whom. You will be encouraged at all times to ask questions so you have a clear understanding of your position. You will always be kept informed on the progress of your matter. Once Nigel has read the prosecution brief and taken full instructions from you (and your witnesses, if any), he will advise you as to the choices available to you and your prospects of success in relation to each option. That advice will be professional and objective – that is, it may not necessarily be the advice you had hoped to hear but it will certainly be the advice you need to hear in order to make the right choices and get the best result possible.
Importantly, you will only ever deal face to face with Nigel and not a junior solicitor or clerk.
Once you have made an informed decision as to your plea or pleas to any charges, you can rest assured that your case will be prepared thoroughly in accordance with your instructions. This may include the issuing of subpoenas, obtaining expert reports, engaging private investigators and whatever else is necessary for a thorough preparation for Court. Should your case require the electronic presentation of evidence (subject to any court ruling or technology available), Nigel is proficient with use of the TrialPad app using an Ipad Pro which allows video, photographic or documentary evidence to be shown in Court.
If it should be a case where a barrister is required, Nigel will (taking into any preference you might have) brief the barrister who he considers to be best suited to your matter bearing in mind the type of charges you face, the nature of any defence and other factors. (Please note that if VertiganLaw is acting for you on an assignment from Legal Aid, the instructing solicitor is required to see if there is an available barrister from the Public Defenders. Only if there is no Public Defender available can a private barrister who accepts Legal Aid briefs be briefed for you.)
When you are to represented in court by Nigel, you can be confident that your case will be conducted strategically and argued persuasively with all the skill and knowledge at his disposal.
